GlossaryThe words this library uses, and what they actually mean

Plain definitions, each linked to the page where the idea is worked through properly.

Some of these are terms of art from the practices. Some are the mechanisms that explain why practices feel convincing. A few are words used loosely enough in the wider world that the loose use is itself the problem — and those are marked.

The six provenance tags

Not vocabulary from the practices — the labels this library puts on its own claims, so you always know what kind of statement you are reading.

Attested

There is a primary source — a document, artefact, court record or dated publication.

Studied

Somebody measured it. A named study, trial or meta-analysis.

Transmitted

A living tradition does this, and the community is named.

Contemporary

Post-1950 synthesis. Modern, and frequently sold as older.

Contested

Genuinely disputed, or unsupported. The page reports the dispute rather than settling it.

Practitioner

The author's own position. Offered as counsel, and yours to refuse.
